Why are screenshots saved as PNG by default?
PNG's lossless compression preserves sharp text and UI element edges perfectly. Screenshots with text would show JPG compression artifacts at the character edges if saved as JPG.
Should I convert screenshots with text to JPG?
If the text is small (under 12px) or you need to read fine details, keep PNG. For general screenshots shared informally, JPG at 85% quality is fine and saves significant storage and upload time.
What if my screenshot has transparent areas?
