Why does UIDAI send password-protected PDFs?
UIDAI encrypts statements with a password derived from your registered identifiers (name + DOB, or PAN, depending on the bank). It's a security default.
Is it legal to remove the password?
Yes — the password protects the file in transit. Once you have it open, you can save an unprotected copy for your own use, accountant, or loan officer.
