Extract High Resolution PNG from ICO Files Free
Overview
Modern Windows application icons and macOS .icns files contain sizes up to 512x512 or 1024x1024. Extracting the largest available size gives you a high-resolution PNG suitable for use in presentations, documentation, and print materials without the jagged edges of a small scaled-up icon.
How to Use This Tool
Upload your .ico file. The tool shows all sizes contained in the ICO. Select the largest available size (256x256 or higher if present). Click Extract PNG. Download the high-resolution transparent PNG.

How do I know what sizes are in my .ico file?
Upload the .ico and the tool lists all contained sizes. A typical modern ICO contains 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, and 256x256. Some high-DPI application icons include 512x512 or even 1024x1024.
Can I upscale an ICO's 16x16 size to a larger PNG?
Technically yes, but scaling a 16x16 image to 256x256 produces a blurry, pixelated result. Only extract the actual size available in the ICO. You cannot recover resolution that was never there.
Are there tools to create high-resolution .ico files?
Yes. Use this tool in reverse: start with a high-resolution 256x256 or 512x512 PNG and convert it to an ICO. The tool generates an ICO containing all standard sizes from the large source image.
