Does the PDF get uploaded when I delete pages here?

Accepted Answer

No. The PDF stays on your device — pdf-lib runs in your browser and writes the trimmed file using only browser memory. Nothing is sent to a server, no temporary copy, no analytics on the file content. Bank statements, court orders, contracts, or any sensitive document can be trimmed without an upload step.

Why would I want to delete pages from a PDF?

Accepted Answer

The most common reasons: blank pages from a scanner, duplicate pages from a botched merge, pages with sensitive content that shouldn't reach the recipient (use redact-pdf if you want black boxes instead), legal-discovery cleanup where exhibits get reordered, or trimming a 200-page form pack down to the 20 pages a portal actually accepts. For each, the workflow is the same — load the PDF, mark the pages to drop, download the result.

What happens to bookmarks, links, and form fields on remaining pages?

Accepted Answer

Bookmarks and outline entries that point to deleted pages are removed; bookmarks pointing to surviving pages are preserved. Internal cross-page links may break if the target page was deleted — pdf-lib does not auto-rewrite link annotations to follow renumbered pages. AcroForm fields, signatures, and page-level metadata on the surviving pages stay intact. If your PDF relies heavily on internal links, verify them after deletion before sending it on.

Is this the same as splitting a PDF?

Accepted Answer

No. Split breaks one PDF into many — page 1 becomes file 1, page 2 becomes file 2, and so on. Delete keeps one PDF and removes specific pages from it. Use split when you want each page as its own file (one-page printouts for filing); use delete when you want a single PDF with the unwanted pages gone (clean version for sharing).

Can I delete every page except one?

Accepted Answer

Yes — mark every page you don't want and leave one unmarked. The tool blocks the case where every page is marked (a zero-page PDF is invalid). If you want a one-page extract, this is the simplest path; mark pages 1, 3, 4, 5… up to the end and keep just page 2.

What's the file size limit?

Accepted Answer

Soft limit around 100 MB for browser memory reasons. PDFs above that size may slow down thumbnail rendering on older devices but should still process. The pdf-lib step that writes the trimmed PDF is light — it's the pdfjs thumbnail render that costs memory. If thumbnails fail to render, the underlying PDF can still be processed; we may add a no-thumbnail mode for very large files in a future release.

Question 7

Does deleting a page actually remove the content, or just hide it?

Accepted Answer

It removes the page object from the PDF structure. Forensic recovery tools cannot pull deleted-page content back from the trimmed PDF — there is no hidden copy. Note: this is different from redaction, where black boxes hide text on a still-present page (use redact-pdf for that). If your goal is privacy compliance and the page must demonstrably be gone, deleting it is the cleaner option.

Can I undo or reorder before deleting?

Marks toggle on click — click a marked page to unmark it. The Clear marks button resets the whole selection. For reordering pages instead of deleting, use the reorder-pdf-pages tool. For both reordering and deleting, do the deletion first, then load the trimmed file into the reorder tool.
